Acronyms:
BLT, PB&J and ...
12/15/09
Did you know
that Americans like to
eat BLT
for lunch, and they
love PB&J
?
O que
significa BLT e
PN&J?
BLT = /bi, el,
ti/
PB&J =
/pi, bi, and djei/
That's part
of the American culture! Sandwiches, tea ... and
acronyms, too!
;-)
BLT is a sandwich, and it stands
for Bacon,
Lettuce
and Tomato, usually between slices of
(white) bread (pão de fôrma). It can also be in a
hoagie (=pão parecido com pão de cachorro-quente, mas
mais pesado e maior).
PB&J
is stands for Peanut
Butter
and Jelly
on
white bread slices!
Now you
know, when you come to visit the States and
people ask you if you want a BLT or
PB&J, you'll know what they are talking
about!
But
hey, don't forget the Club Sandwich!
Another common sandwich in America! Club Sandwich (also called
double-decker and clubhouse) is made
of cooked chicken breast and bacon, ripe
tomatoes and crisp lettuce layered between
two or three slices of toasted bread with mayonnaise.
There are variations on the theme, with turkey or roast
beef on the bottom layer and bacon, lettuce, egg and
tomatoe on the top layer.
All
of this goes well with iced tea - common beverage among
Americans. Many drink their tea without sugar
(unsweetened).
Agora
você já sabe como dizer "pão de fôrma" em inglês, "chá gelado
sem açúcar", e o que significa "BLT", "PB&J" e
"Club Sandwich".
