"Beer or Pop"

How was your long weekend? I hope you have made the best of it, but if you didn't, it's okay! Next month you'll have another long holiday-weekend - Corpus Christ, on a Thursday, right? Four-day weekend to enjoy! Enjoy!

Falando sobre feriados, lembrei de chopp, cerveja, etc... Você sabe como se diz "chopp" em inglês?  Na verdade, o jeito certo de escrever em português é "chope" (derivado do francês), mas vamos ao inglês:

"That bar has an excellent draft beer!"

ou

"I love beer on tap!"

 

So, "draft beer" e "beer on tap"  are the expressions for the tasty "chope". Lembre-se que chope é simplesmente a cerveja sem pasteurização e servida sob pressão. Por isso "beer on tap", porque é a cerveja que vem da "torneira" com pressão (numa corrente ou fluxo, por isso "draft").

Note que em inglês britânico escrevemos "draught" em vez de "draft" , mas a pronúncia é a mesma: /draft/.

 

E como dizer "colarinho de cerveja" em inglês? 

Colarinho chamamos de "head" - faz sentido, já que situa-se no topo!

"This beer has a great head!"

 

Don't care for beer? What about ....

- soft drink?

- or soda pop?

- or soda?

- or pop?

Those are the names for "refrigerante" in English (here in America)! In British English we say "fizzy drink".  But I bet you already knew all that, didn't you? ;-)

Now, when you travel abroad you'll know better what to order when you are thirsty!

Forget about the soft drink! Order a golden draft beer with a beautiful head, and have fun!

By the way, this nice frosted mug with this beautiful, delicious beer is "craft beer" or "home brew".
Those are names for "cerveja caseira". And this one is one of the best!  My husband made it!
