naquele tipo de situação em que "se correr o bicho
pega, se ficar o bicho come"?
Quem diz que a
língua inglesa é difícil porque é cheia de expressões
idiomáticas, está deixando de observar as pitorescas
expressões em português!Como essa acima!
Expressões
idiomáticas (chamadas apenas 'idioms' em inglês) são marcas culturais
de um povo, e todo idioma tem! Fácil ou difícil
já é uma questão subjetiva... e tem a ver com a
familiaridade que temos com o
idioma.
Imagine
this scene: you park your car and walk to a
destination where you are going to have a meeting. It
starts raining. You don't want to get all wet! You
are one mile away from the car now, where the
umbrella is. And one mile away to your destination.
You have two choices: run back to the car and get the
umbrella, or continue walking towards the building.
You are going to get wet no matter what you choose to
do!
Esse é um
exemplo deCatch-22
! Não importa o que
você faça, estará sempre numa situação não tão
perfeita.
Catch-22
is a term coined
byJoseph
Heller. He wrote
a novel called Catch-22, where he describes a paradox
in a situation where a person is a victim regardless
of the choice he/she makes.
Catch-22
is also called a
"lose-lose
"
situation,(lose=perder, isto é, não há
ganhos)where a person has choices, but no
choice leads to (real)
success.
I hope you
don't get caught in a Catch-22 situation!
