Sharing Life from the USA!

Nov.1st, 2011

I'd like to share this with you, because it's a representation of American culture.

Este ano fizemos uma festa de Halloween em casa. It was a Halloween Costume Potluck Party and we all had tons of fun!

"Potluck" means that every guest brings a dish to pass (food to share). This is very common in gatherings here. Great idea, because I didn't have to do all the cook!  ;-)

Here are a few shots of the party.

Yesterday, Oct. 31st, I was having a hard time writing in the evening because the door bell didn't stop ringing. "Trick-or-treaters" (Kids from the vicinities) would come every five minutes to "scare" me!  :-D  So, there I would go to answer the door and fill their bags with candies and chocolates. They were again very cute in their costumes!

Yes, it's wise to  learn, understand and enjoy other cultures in the world, and I believe it's equally wise to value and appreciate our own culture, too! Muitas pessoas não valorizam o que têm em casa e apreciam apenas o que vem de fora. Comemoram culturas estrangeiras sem nem mesmo entender as origens e os porques, ao mesmo tempo que desprezam suas próprias  origens e história.

I celebrate unseen forces when I am here in the USA for Halloween;  and in Brazil I embrace with love Saci Pererê & Festa Junina (similar cultural symbols between the two hemispheres).
