Praticar
Inglês Brincando!
Literalmente!
08/16/10
I am
feeling like playing with you a little bit today...
nonsense taking life so seriously anyway, don't you
think?
So, put your brains to work and have
fun finding out what the pictures below represent, in
English, of course!
Aqui vai uma dica para você: o que as
fotos representam está relacionado com nomes já
existentes em inglês.
If you
don't know them, certamente agora vai
aprender!
Primeiro estude as fotos abaixo,
uma de cada vez, e pense... pense... pense.... Se
não conseguir associar as imagens com nada que
você já conheça em inglês,
scroll down the
page e confira as respostas e
explicações no final.
Have fun, and
let me know how you
scored!

And then? Get 'em all? C'mon... be
honest! How many did you know?
Ok, all right... I believe
it!
Aqui vão as respostas pra você
conferir:
Egg
Plant
Real Eggplant
(just for comparison)
Doctor
Pepper
red bell
pepper = "pimentão vermelho". Pepper for
short.
Doctor
Pepper is a brand of pop (soda pop
= refrigerante)
Pool
Table
It looks like a pool in the
table, doesn't it? This is a reference to
the pool table that is used to play billiard. Not
the pool we swim in, but the game called pool,
and the table to play
pool.
Card
Shark
Card shark is actually the name
given to a skilled professional card-player who
is
dishonest.
Gator
Aide
"gator" is
short (abbreviation) for alligator. Aide is
help, assistance. This image is of course a
reference to the sport drink
Gatorade.
Hole
Milk
Of course,
the milk would be "whole milk" (leite
integral). But this one seems to be pretty holey
(perforated), all right! Mesma
pronúncia, different spell, significado
differente: Hole (furo, buraco) x Whole
(integral,
completo)
I
Pod
Cool! An
"eye" in a "pod". Pod, just in case you
don't know, is a seed pouch
in plants, where many of them produce
and store their
seeds.
The King of
Pop
Pop is
soda, the carbonated drink. But "pop" also
means "pop" like in "pop music". The King of Pop
is how Michael Jackson used to call
himself.
knight-Mare
Reference to "nightmare". Knight
is the medieval warrior, and mare is the female
horse. Same
pronunciation. If you see one of this around, it
could only be a real "nightmare"!
:-)
Light
Beer
With
all this light, the meaning is clear,
right?
Tap
Dancers
Taps
are faucets. Dancers on the tap = tap
dancers! But actually this is a reference to
'tap dancers", which are the ones who dance
"tap" (= sapateado).
A real
tap dancer
That's all folks!!! Hope you enjoyed this one
today!
