Puzzle or
Jigsaw?
01/26/10
A jigsaw is always a puzzle,
but not all puzzles are jigsaws!

You must have heard or
read the words "jigsaw puzzle". And just the word
"puzzle" by itself. Or just "jigsaw" by itself.
Qual é a forma
correta para dizer "quebra-cabeça"?
Puzzle is any kind of enigma. For
example, a riddle (= charada) is a puzzle. Any other
game that you have to guess (adivinhar) the answer is a
puzzle. Even a situation in life can be a puzzle,
figuratively speaking. One can say "I am
puzzled
by his
attitude!" meaning "I'm confused/baffled by his
attitude." In this sense, "puzzle" is used as a
verb.
Jigsaw is that game composed of
different shaped pieces which fit together to form a
picture. And that game
puzzles
you, doesn't
it? It's a mental work to find out the right
pieces and put them together! So it is a puzzle.
A jigsaw
puzzle.
Now... don't be puzzled
and find the answer for this puzzle!
See if you can figure out
what these words have in
common...
Banana
Dresser
Grammar
Potato
Revive
Uneven
Assess
Difficult?
Try again, look carefully!
Okay... you must be puzzled enough by
now... The answer is NOT that they all have at least 2
double letters.
The answer is:
In all of
the words listed, if you take the first letter, place it
at the end of the word, and then spell the word
backwards, it will be the same
word.
How cool is that?? I love words, don't
you!!!

Remember to
have fun... even during puzzled moments in
life!
