I was in
a meeting one of these days and I met a woman who
is a stager
. Stager? I had never heard of
such
profession (see?
Learning Process is perpetual!). First
thing that came to my mind was, "Does she work on a
stage, like setting up stages at the theater before
shows?"
As I
was thinking of what the heck stager
means, and having my antennae up so I
could catch it in the air, someone else in
the group - an American old lady - asked her,
"Stager? Is that the person who
works uncluttering the house before the
sale?"
Ah-
AH!! Recently I had just heard
something like this: if you are going to sell your
house in the USA, the Real Estate agency will send
a professional (a stager) to your home to
tell you how to "clean up" the space before
showing it to prospect buyers, taking pictures,
and so on. What else will they think about,
huh? But I didn't know there was a fancy
name for such professional! This seems
to be a new fashion in the States - so new
that even Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary
does not have this definiton for
"stager" yet!
Now I know
what "stager" means, and YOU know, too,

money and

When you decide to buy a property in the
USA, one of the options is to visit a
Real Estate
Agency (agência
imobiliária). There you will talk to the
realtor or
broker (corretor
imobiliário), who is the person who will
show you some properties . He or she will tell you
the
terms (condições de
pagamento), and you may need a
loan from your
banker. (um empréstimo pelo
banco).
Once you decide on the property, the
realtor prepares a sales contract and presents it
to the seller (quem está vendendo o imóvel), along
with the proof of earnest
money's deposit. Earnest
money is a partial payment the
buyer deposits as a show of good faith in the
negotiation
(adiantamento que o
comprador disponibiliza em boa-fé, como garantia
de interesse na negociação; garantia de compra;
caução). Until all the documents are clear (tudo
checado em nas condições apropriadas), the earnest
money is held in an escrow
account. Escrow is
the process by which money is held by a
disinterested party until the terms of the
negotiation are fulfilled. {Este processo em que uma terceira parte
mantem a garantia do negócio (seja a garantia em
dinheiro [earnest money] ou um título ou
contrato [agreement]) é chamado
escrow.}
You and the seller
sign the contract. The earnest
money (adiantamento/caução)
leaves the escrow account and
goes to the seller's account (o processo de
escrow é finalizado quando o adiantamento
em depósito de escrow segue para a conta
do vendedor). You pay the rest of the down
payment (entrada; primeira
parcela que foi negociada, menos o valor do earnest
money, que já está agora com o vendedor), and the
real estate transaction is over.
The house is yours - and you have now a
mortgage
to pay (prestações do
empréstimo que você deve ao banco), perhaps for the next thirty years or so; and
you have a home to take care for a lifetime (or until
you decide to sell it and live in a tent! Otherwise, be
prepared to change the windows; repair the floor; paint
the walls; fix the roof; build a new deck; mow the
lawn; and lucky you if you don't have plumb and
electrical fixings to do, too! Welcome to your new
home!
I'm thinking of buying a tent myself, and
living on the beach!
