Sunbathe and Suntan
(banho de sol e bronzeado) 
 

It's somehow difficult for me right now to talk about sunbathe or suntan. I can't quite visualize or imagine what is to get some tan when my thermometer here is showing 29 degrees Fahrenheit. About -2 Celcius! MINUS! NEGATIVE! BELOW ZERO! And it's pretty warm, actually today! A few nights ago the temperature reached the mark of the 20's (F) = (-6 C).

The fun thing is that I made two snowmen in my backyard this week! Here is one:

 

Enough of cold. Let's talk about SUMMER! Oh, joy! Times like this I wish I could be on the beach, in Brazil!

Now:

beach ==> leads to sunbathing ==> which leads to suntan.

 

Como é em inglês "pegar um bronzeado"?

Resposta mais rápida: "escape from winter!"  :-)

Pegar um bronze, ou um bronzeado, é "to get a tan"   ou  "a suntan"  se o bronzeado vem mesmo do sol. Já se você optar por bronzeamento artificial pode usar "tan"   que é a tradução direta de "bronzeado".

Existem também os "self-tanning creams", which gradually give your skin a natural-looking tan with a healthy glow, even when you cannot be exposed to the sun.

I will confess: I have used a couple of those lotions. There are the good ones, and the not so good ones. In general they do bring good results.

But the truth is: nothing replaces the bright, happy and healthy sun rays!  So, whenever you can, go sunbathing, and get a nice golden tan! Remember to consider some skin protection and the time length you'll be exposed to the sun. You won't want to be red like a lobster, and then peeling off like a snake, right?  It's better to be just golden like a summer deity!

Have fun (for you and me!) during this tropical summer which is about to start in ten days down there (if you are in the Southern Hemisphere)! Meanwhile, here in the Northern Hemisphere, I'll have a cup of hot cocoa in front of the fireplace, thinking of you! ;-)
